One of the best ways to ‘use up’ your stash is to have it visible.
That’s where storage solutions like this Kaiser ribbon box really shine.
While the box itself is only small and wouldn’t ever be able to hold my entire ribbon stash, I really like the idea of having a selection of ribbons close at hand - either in the colours your most attracted to for the moment, or the odds and ends you want to use up.
The flip top lid opens fully (or not quite fully, depending on how much you embellish the top) so that it’s easy to get into. Mini spools will fit nicely, but personally I think this box is best for cut lengths of ribbon and leftover scraps.
The decorated box pictured was made using the Vagabond range of papers and coordinating pearl embellishments from Kaiser, chipboard letters by Bella and Maya Road, paper blossoms, a dash of Jo Sonja paint (french blue) and Matisse Polymer Gloss Varnish.
This one was glued together before I started working on it, but I think it would be easier to cover your surfaces first, especially if you want to decorate inside of the box too.
Kaiser recommend that you lightly sand the wood surface before painting it. If you’re planning to only paint the edges and cover the flat surfaces with paper I tend to skip this first step. Instead, I stick on the paper, and then sand the edges of the paper and the wood at the same time - which saves doing everything twice and makes for a nice clean edge. After sanding, wipe over the whole piece with a babywipe or damp cloth - this gets rid of any residue so that you can add paint or gloss easily and smoothly.

The plain chipboard letters were covered with coordinating paper using PVA glue and the edges were sanded off for a smooth finish. Then they were embellished with the self adhesive pearls in different sizes. The floral embellishment was made using a large pearl as the centre, surrounded by the tiny pearls. This gave more impact as the single pearl looked a little bit lost at the centre of the large flower.
If you prefer a bit more bling, you could also use Kaiser’s adhesive rhinestones to embellish instead of the pearls - or a combination of the two. There’s a huge range of colours in both the rhinestones and the pearls and they’re so easy to use that I have to restrain myself from adding them to EVERYTHING. The adhesive is surprisingly strong - my mobile phone and eftpos machine are both covered in the rhinestones and are holding up quite well.
Here’s a picture of the completed ribbon box, which is on display in the shop if you’d like a closer look. It looks like I’ll have to make myself another one if I want to take one home with me!

If you have decorated one of these boxes, or have another off the page project you’d like to share using any of the Kaiser range, comment below with a link to your blog or send us an email. I’ll post more off-the-page projects and storage ideas in the next few weeks.
Have a creative day,
