My apologies for not emailing this out to everyone. As you may know, it’s been a crazy, hectic couple of months for us.

The workshop schedule has been finalised and is now available here: PDF file, click to download.

While Mum and I are cruising, I will try to update with news as we go.
Please note our opening hours for the next two weeks.

Friday 19th - Open as usual
Saturday 20th - Closed
Sunday 21st - Closed
Monday 22nd - Friday 26th - Open as usual
Saturday 27th - Closed

Dad (Craig) will be watching the store for us while we are away. He won’t be taking custom orders for invitations, business cards or rubber stamps while we are gone. Outstanding orders that arrive will be available for collection as usual and he will call to advise you when they are ready. We will be placing some orders when we get back, but due to minimum orders with different companies, we cannot guarantee that any custom orders placed upon our return will be filled before mid August.

Shop News

May 25th, 2009

We’ve been in the new shop for 2 weeks now and we’re *loving* it. We’ve been doing a bit of ordering to catch up with things we were low on, and there’s some gorgeous new things in store as well.

One that I’m really excited about is that we’re now stocking the sassy Bombshell Stamps.
These have already sold really well, so there’s only a few designs left on the shelves including:

and

We’ve also got a new stand of the shimmery, lovely Pearl-Ex Powders in the small jars. These 3gm pots are great for stampers and crafters who use pearlex for small applications. We can still get the large jars as well if you’re working on a large project, we just won’t keep the big ones in stock all the time.

We also have 2 threading water punches in stock.  If you’ve been waiting for one, come and grab one quick!

I was hoping to have a nice new blog design here today, but that plan just didn’t work out. So we’ll stick with this one for a few more days until my brain can go into ‘geek mode’ properly and figure out how to do what I need to do to make it work.

That’s all from me for today, I’ll be back tomorrow with more goodies to show you.

New Store is Open

May 11th, 2009

After a good couple of months of thinking, planning, looking, stressing, organising, painting, packing, decorating and putting together - the new shop is finally open for business.

The new address is Shop 13-14, 51 Rockingham Road, Hamilton Hill WA 6163

Here’s a few sneak peeks - this is the best I have until I remember to take photos during the daytime!

We’re currently open from 9.30am-5.30 pm Mon-Sat. We will be there from 12-5 this Sunday to see if it’s worth us opening 7 days a week when there’s no workshops scheduled. So if you want us to open on Sundays on a regular basis, pop down and see us this week and see if you can convince us!

Exciting Stuff!

April 9th, 2009

Hi Everyone,

Some exciting stuff going on here at Scrappindipity this month.

  1. Relocation Plans
  2. Easter Trading Hours
  3. New In Store

Relocation Plans

As you may know, our lease at High St Arcade is coming to a end and we’ve been looking around for a location that ‘ticks more boxes’ for our customers. The biggest box to tick was parking and the next was workshop space.  We found a space that ticked those boxes and more.

Our new address will be Shop 13-14 Hamilton Hill Shopping Plaza, 51 Rockingham Road, Hamilton Hill.
This is the popular Scarvaci’s IGA complex which has heaps of free shaded parking, a new Muzz Buzz opening soon and a bus stop right out the front of the centre.

We’re not sure exactly when we’ll be moving, but we’re hoping to be set up over there by the end of April/early May.

The new store will bring a few changes to the way we run our business, mostly in that we’ll be more true to our style and our intentions with the store.  Our product ranges will reflect these changes which I’m sure most of our customers will love.  We have never wanted to be a one-stop-shop for craft supplies, rather, we want Scrappindipity to be the place where our customers go ‘ooh’ with every product that they lay their eyes on.

There will be a move towards more items in kits, particularly for scrapbooking supplies,  and an increase in the more ‘arty’ lines like paints and stamps and collage goodies.

We will have a range of workshops and classes, regular social gatherings and crops, playtimes, demonstrations and make-and-takes.

Papershakers will soon be receiving a couple of invitations - one to our clearance sale at our current store, and of course one to our opening night celebration at the new store.  If you’re not a papershaker yet, visit us soon to get your name on the list!

Easter Trading Hours:

Please note that we will be closed for Easter from Good Friday through to Easter Monday - Reopening as normal on Tuesday 14th April.

New In Store:

.

We’ve had orders arive today from Stampotique and Kaisercraft.

Fresh in from Stampotique:

If you’ve been waiting patiently for the Stampotique girls to arrive, then wait no longer! There’s a nice long row of these creepycute girls lined up on our stamp shelves waiting for someone like you to take them home and get them inky. Be quick, they never last long and we don’t know how long it’ll be before we’re ready to place our next order.

Fresh in from Kaisercraft:

Two new designs of clear stamps with numbers and dates.

Two OTP mini books -

A great swirly design (left) that works with a strong moroccan style, or highlight an area of the design for a girly heart motif. And a Moroccan style tile design (right) that also has potential for something romantic.

Also, three new paper collections:

Grandiose - A romantic Earth-toned range
Garden Arabesque - A delicate floral range in sahdes of lilac and honeydew.
Marrakech - The colours and architectural styles of Morrocco

That’s all from us for today. We’ll keep you updated as we get closer to the big move.

Artivity - Image Challenge

February 12th, 2009

Lorri is running an image challenge just for the fun of it on her blog, Artivity. She’s provided a free vintage image download and is encouraging readers to have a play and then post their results either on their own blogs, or send them to her to upload.

This is my contribution, the text reads “She appreciated the effort, but Sally was not impressed by the way her mother took ‘I just want to blend in’ so literally.”

The card is A5 size, a size I’m quite enjoying working with lately because it’s a bigger canvas to play with. I used black Prisma card as a base and a bit of grey coredinations to mount the card front on.

The background paper was created by taking a sheet of Kaisercraft’s ‘Alencon’ paper from the Argentella collection (a black and white design) and applying the faux watercolour technique I described on my blog a few days ago.

I swiped a black pigment ink pad (Brilliance Graphite Black) over the bottom of the card to create a floor. I didn’t want solid colour here, just a muted version of the pattern. For more of a collaged look you could use a coordinating paper instead of swiping with ink.

I cheated and printed the words myself rather than digging through book pages to find them. They were cut into strips and adhered with the sakura glue pen, then outlined with a fineliner.

Sally herself was cut out of the image (printed as it was, no editing or resizing was done) and her dress was cut out of the remainder of the background paper. To get her dress the right size, I took a scrap piece of vellum/tracing paper and followed her outline. Then I flipped over the vellum and used a piece of carbon paper underneath to retrace the outline onto the back of the patterned paper. You could just trace directly onto the front of the backing paper if you draw slightly outside the lines and then cut on the inside, but that requires more precision than working from the back does.

The original Sally had one of her arms behind her back/obscured by another girl, so I did a quick transplant of someone else’s arm to even her out when she’s used alone. She seems to have recovered from the operation. =)

Once Sally was dressed, I stuck her down to the backing with Kaisercraft’s new adhesive foam dots. For the thinner areas of her arm I cut a little of the negative left behind by the dots into a thin line which stopped her having saggy noodle arms.  If noodley bits are a problem with your cutout people you can always mount them onto card before cutting out, or give them a coat of mod-podge to stiffen the paper a bit.

A strip of silver diamontes finished off the card and added a bit of shine. Just because  Sally wants to blend in, doesn’t mean the card has to.

Scrappindipity goes mobile

February 11th, 2009

I know that for a lot of you, this news won’t mean much or be of any interest at all. But if you’re a little geeky like I am, you’ll be happy to know that there is now a mobile version of this blog.

If you have a web enabled mobile phone and you browse to our blog in the normal way, you’ll be automatically shown the mobile version - which saves your download quota and makes things load a lot quicker. Quite nifty, I think.

I’ll be back tomorrow with a couple of crafty posts. Stay tuned.

Welcome giveaway visitors

January 21st, 2009

Hi to everyone that’s following Lorri’s blogs and have come here for the giveaway. Welcome to Scrappindipity.

We’re trying to get some more things happening on the site, but until recently haven’t been sure what. Well, 2009 will bring new things for Scrappindipity - the biggest and most exciting for us is that we’re going to start running workshops again. We’ve still got a lot of details to work out, but there will be a lot more on the ‘instructional’ side of things from both Mum and myself this year. We’ve got so many ideas to share and 2009 is the year we’re making it all happen.

We’re also taking a good close look at the business and realigning our focus. It’s easy to get swept away in the day-to-day running of a store and swerve a little off-course. Our primary goal with Scrappindipity was to inspire creativity and while we have been doing that in store for our customers, it’s not really happening in as big a way as we had intended. So expect more content here on the blog including technique ideas, additions to the gallery and step by step tutorials. For those of you lucky enough to live near us or visit, there will be workshops, classes, make-and-takes, swaps and other exciting events to get those creative sparks flying.

As for the other changes around here… well you’ll just have to wait and see. Subscribe by RSS if you’d like to stay up to date with the changes.

If you’ve got any ideas, contributions or suggestions for us, please don’t hold back in letting us know about them!
