As I step boldly into the blogosphere with big intentions, I suddenly freeze.
There’s so much I want to say, but where do I start?
Let’s start at the very beginning. Well, maybe not the very beginning, I’d be here all week. We’ll start at the beginning of Scrappindipity.
Scrappindipity is a mother/daughter business venture that started very serendipitously back in 2002.
Mum (Lorri) was doing the accounts for a local manufacturer of rubber stamps when she started designing custom rubber stamps for clients of the company. Soon after that, she decided to put together her own range of rubber stamps and called in the help of myself and other family members. Seeing how well the designs were selling in someone else’s store, seeds of a business idea started sprouting in Lorri’s mind… could we design our own range of rubber stamps and sell them alongside other papercrafting and scrapbooking products from home?
A year or so later, and piles of paper and products are overtaking the back room of Lorri’s home, I’m floundering after calling it quits with a boring university course and Mum and I join forces to take ‘the next step’.
We opened Scrappindipity in the E-Shed markets in Fremantle sometime in 2003. The store was well received, even though Fremantle is known as a very ‘arty’ area, there wasn’t much in the way of paper crafting supplies – There was an art supply store which catered for the more traditional artists, and a chain craft store with a small and basic range of papercrafting products. We soon outgrew our location and moved to a bigger space within the market.
Two years on, and everything is leading us towards that next step. We searched and searched for a suitable location in Fremantle that would allow us room to run classes and that was within our price range. We saw the Manning Arcade space with the upstairs area and just knew that this would be Scrappindipity’s new home. Within two weeks of closing at the markets, we opened our doors at our current location on August 14th, 2005.
